Towing capacity and payload capacity are two essential specifications to consider when choosing a vehicle, especially if you plan on hauling trailers, boats, or other heavy loads. However, they refer to different aspects of a vehicle’s capabilities and understanding the differences between the two is crucial.

Towing Capacity:

Towing capacity refers to the maximum weight a vehicle can tow behind it. It includes the weight of the trailer and whatever is being towed on or in it. This specification is vital for people who need to tow trailers, caravans, boats, or other heavy loads. Towing capacity depends on several factors, including the vehicle’s engine power, transmission, suspension, and sometimes additional towing packages. When considering towing capacity, it’s essential to factor in the weight of the trailer, its contents, and any passengers or cargo inside the towing vehicle.

Baseline Towing Capacity:
Jeep Gladiator Overland Towing Capacity : 6,000 (lbs.)

Note: you may read that Jeep Gladiator tows up to 7,650 pounds or 7,700 pounds. Keep in mind this applies to Gladiator Models: Sport, Sport S, and Freedom combine with optional Max Tow Package with 4.10 Axle Ratio.

If you require more then baseline towing capacity please consult with your local Jeep dealer.

Payload Capacity:

Payload capacity, on the other hand, refers to the maximum weight a vehicle can carry inside its cabin and cargo bed. It includes all passengers, luggage, and any items loaded in the truck bed. For pickup trucks, payload capacity is especially critical, as it determines how much weight the vehicle can carry in its bed without affecting its performance, handling, and safety. Overloading a vehicle’s payload capacity can lead to reduced braking efficiency, poor handling, and increased wear on suspension components.

Jeep Gladiator payload can varies from 1200 lbs to 1700 lbs. Once again all depends on which model you have selected and which configurations. Once again please consult your dealer for more specific details.

To complement the powerful Jeep Gladiator towing capacity, this truck has an equally-impressive payload capacity. A best-in-class maximum 4×4 payload rating of up to 1,710 pounds** with the Sport and Sport S trims, to be precise.

The Willy Sport, Willys, and Freedom trims have a maximum payload rating of 1,700 pounds.* The Mojave and Rubicon trims have a maximum payload rating of 1,200 pounds,* while the Overland and High Altitude trims have a maximum payload rating of 1,120 pounds.
