Trail Boss Gas Tank Skid Plate for Jeep CJ5 & CJ7 is similar to the YJ unit. This Trail Boss Gas Tank Skid Plate utilizes the stock gas tank skid mounting holes and hardware to minimize installation time. In addition, this Trail Boss Gas Tank Skid Plate replaces the stock sheet metal rock shield and was designed to offer the maximum allowable side and differential clearance. However, due to the factory cross member that sits above the front of the gas tank, this Trail Boss Gas Tank Skid Plate cannot be raised to gain additional ground clearance. To protect the plastic tank from the heat of the exhaust the drivers side of this Trail Boss Gas Tank Skid Plate is extra tall to act as a heat shield and deflect exhaust heat. The Trail Boss Gas Tank Skid Plate for the Jeep CJ5 and CJ7 fits 1976-86 models with the OEM 20 gallon plastic gas tank only. (NOTE: No body lift required.)
